Washington, DC – Community Rights Counsel applauds the withdrawal of William G. Myers’ nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. His confirmation was blocked by bipartisan Senate opposition because of his record of hostility to environmental safeguards and his disregard for the rights of Native Americans. Myers is the first judicial nominee in history to be denied Senate confirmation primarily because of hostility to environmental safeguards.
“The nomination of William Myers galvanized Americans around the court threat to environmental protection.” said Doug Kendall, Executive Director of Community Rights Counsel. “The failure of this nomination is a victory for environmental protection and one of our nation’s most precious resources, the federal judiciary.”
