Human Rights, Civil Rights & Citizenship Program Director for the Constitutional Accountability Center

The Constitutional Accountability Center’s Human Rights, Civil Rights & Citizenship Program Director will develop and implement short and long-term strategies for using constitutional text and history to build a stronger foundation for advancing civil and human rights in America.   As an example of a short-term strategy, the Director will run an urgent issue campaign to respond to claims by anti-immigration organizations that children of undocumented immigrants should not have birthright citizenship.  Over the longer term, the Director will help formulate an ambitious, multi-year effort to recast public perceptions of the Reconstruction Amendments in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of the ratification of these amendments, which will take place between 2015 and 2020.   The Human Rights Program Director will work with CAC’s President to build this Program from the ground up; cultivate allies in Congress, the Executive Branch, and the media; write essays, issue papers, and other materials that explain how constitutional text and history supports strong protections for civil and human rights; and work in conjunction with CAC’s Chief Counsel in developing a legal strategy for advancing these positions in court.

The ideal candidate will have top academic credentials (JD required), a passion for history, the vision necessary to help develop the Program and the demonstrated organizational and management skills necessary to bring this vision into reality.   Salary and benefits are competitive with senior level positions in other non-profit organizations.  If interested, please send a resume and cover letter to Doug Kendall at doug@communityrights.org or mail these materials to:
